Renowned Neurologist Dr Nagarajan Venkataraman AIIMS Madurai President dies of heart attack
Chennai: Renowned Neurologist Dr Nagarajan Venkataraman President of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madhurai passed away following a massive heart attack on Thursday midnight. He was 77.
Dr Nagarajan is survived by his wife Mohanarani Nagarajan, daughter Krithika Radhakrishnan and son-in-law J.Radhakrishnan, a senior IAS officer and presently the Secretary of the Cooperation, Food, and Consumer Protection Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. Nagarajan, who was admitted to Sri Ramachandra Hospital, died early this morning.

He worked as a senior neuro consultant at VN Neuro Care Centre and Hospital in Madurai. In October 2022, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare appointed him as the president of the newly set up AIIMS in Madurai.
Dr Nagarajan was the chairman, of the ethical committee, of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH), Madurai, and had recently been appointed the President of AIIMS, Madurai. He had also served as an Honorary Distinguished Professor at the Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University.
As a recent media report in The New Indian Express, Dr Venkataraman was attending the AIIMS governing body meeting in Chennai on January 10, during which he suffered a mild cardiac arrest. Later he was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
Principal secretary for cooperation, food and consumer protection and son-in-law of Dr Venkataraman, J Radhakrishnan, who was with him during the meeting, said, "He was responding well to the treatment, but later he succumbed after developing a second massive heart attack on January 12 at 12.15 am."
Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi and Chief Minister M.K.Stalin condoled his death. In a tweet, the Raj Bhavan said "Governor RN Ravi expresses his profound grief over the demise of Dr. Nagarajan Venkataraman, the head of VN Neurological Research Group and the Head of @madurai_aiims. #RIP".

The Governor said Dr Nagarajan was a mentor to the neurological medical fraternity and his contributions to the medical field will always be remembered.""My family joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace", the Governor said.
In his message, Stalin expressed profound grief and anguish over the death of a senior neurologist and offered his condolences to the bereaved family members, including his son-in-law Dr Radhakrishnan and the medical fraternity.
AIIMS Madurai tweeted "With profound Grief & Sorrow, we regret to inform you the sudden demise of the President, AIIMS Madurai Dr V. Nagarajan"."It is a great loss to AIIMS, Madurai. We express our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We pray for the eternal peace of the departed Soul", it said.
