Slogging in peripheries from 5 to 15 years despite being seniors: Doctors seek Transfer to Osmania, Gandhi Medical Colleges
Telangana: Senior doctors in the State, who are posted in different medical colleges, have recently urged the State Health Department to allow them to opt for the vacancies in Osmania, Gandhi, Kakatiya, and Nizamabad medical colleges and allow displacement of long-standing faculties, employed at a single station for more than five years.
The doctors have been waiting for an order from the State Government allowing general transfers of the doctors. In this regard, the doctors have also submitted multiple representations to the authorities in the past.
Even though after a gap of five years, the government has issued the order for general transfers, Osmania, Gandhi, KMC and Nizamabad medical colleges have been excluded from the list.
Therefore, doctors are not allowed to apply for vacant posts in these medical colleges and now they have approached the State Health Department authorities asking for permission to be allowed to be transferred in these medical colleges as well.
“For the first time, Osmania, Gandhi, KMC and Nizamabad medical colleges are excluded. Neither can we apply for the vacancies in these colleges nor can we replace the long standing faculty in these colleges. This is injustice and pain to the doctors slogging in peripheries from five to 15 years despite being seniors,” stated the representation by the doctors to the State health secretary.
While commenting on the matter, one of the doctors told the Times of India, “We have been working since the past five to 15 years in various medical colleges in the remote places of Telangana. We have been posted to these colleges despite there being vacancies in Osmania, Gandhi and other places of our choice. Many of us had our families settled at a different station and we have gone through several hardships in rendering our service.”
The doctors pointed out that if the Government allows them the provision to get transferred in these colleges, then the senior doctors will get a chance to choose the station of their choice.
Medical Dialogues had reported that earlier this month, Telangana Medical and Health Department issued a Government Order on May 2 and released various guidelines for General Transfers of Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors working under the administrative control of Director of Medical Education (DME).
As per the orders issued by health secretary S.A.M Rizvi, the transfers shall be effected only to clear vacancies; employees who have completed two years of service in a station are eligible for transfer. In the case of employees who have to give an application to DME requesting for transfer, counselling shall be held for effecting transfers.
