Sudden death of senior resident doctor while on duty at RML Hospital shocks colleagues
New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident, a young senior resident doctor working in the Medicine department of Delhi's Dr Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, died of a heart attack while on duty, on Wednesday.
A statement from an 'X' user who raised the issue on the platform, noted that Dr Adil Amin was in good health until Tuesday and showed no signs of any health problems. However, he unexpectedly suffered a myocardial infarction, commonly known as a "heart attack," and sadly passed away on Wednesday. Doctors have also confirmed the incident through their posts on social media.
His sudden death has sparked debate regarding the problem of an unhealthy lifestyle, stressful working conditions and an alarming lack of time to give to health needs amongst resident doctors.

Dr Siddharth Tara, a health activist and General Secretary of Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum, told Medical Dialogues, "Most jobs (government or corporate) give employees a free full health check-up, including stress testing, every six months. But this culture has yet to be steeped into medical colleges and hospitals.
This is the greatest irony. We are kept too busy to get it done. A Resident doctor is no longer a student but a scholar and employee. If non-medical industries can logistically streamline the process of giving their employees a 6-month complete check-up without deducting CL and without making them wait in lines, then surely hospital administrators and college deans can do this too. It would be a shame if resident doctors didn't recognize this as their labour right."
Responding to the tragic incident, Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed his sorrow and said in a post on 'X', "This is indeed sad news. In the last few years, a lot of young & healthy have died due to sudden cardiac arrest."
In a condolence message issued by RML Hospital, Dr. (Prof.) Ajay Shukla Director and Medical Superintendent said, "It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts for ABVIMS & Dr RML Hospital for the loss of Dr Adil Amin (31.01.1987 to 11.12.2024) working as Senior Resident in General Medicine since 11th March, 2021. Our deepest sympathy & heartfelt condolences to his family & friends during this tough time. Please accept sincere condolences from ABVIMS & Dr RML Hospital for your profound loss. Our deepest condolences to his bereaved family & friends may his soul rest in eternal peace."
