New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has recently issued notice on a plea challenging the teaser of the Sunny Deol-starrer movie 'Suryaa: Ant se Aarambh Tak'.

Directing the respondents to file a reply, the Delhi High Court bench has listed the matter for further hearing on November 16, 2026. "Issue notice. Mr. Jagdish Chandra, CGSC accepts notice on behalf of Union of India. Notice be served on the remaining respondents through all permissible modes. Reply, if any, be filed before the next date of hearing. List on 16.11.2026," ordered the HC bench comprising Justice Amit Mahajan.

Filing the plea, Dr Nishant Soni and other office-bearers of Doctors of Corporate Society have sought directions to the authorities to remove the teaser of the movie from all online platforms until such examination and certification under Section 5B of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 is complete. They argued that the teaser promotes a false portrayal of doctors in private and corporate hospitals as organ traffickers and commission-driven actors, and it also justifies violence against medical professionals.

Further, the plea sought directions to the authorities to examine the Film, and every teaser, trailer and promotional material of the Film, in accordance with Section 5B(1) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952 and the 2026 Guidelines, with particular reference to the content identified in paragraph 10 of the petition, to require such excisions and modifications as are necessary in law, to require the Film and each such teaser and trailer to carry a disclaimer that the Film is a work of fiction and is not based on true events, and that violence against doctors and healthcare workers is a punishable offence, and to disclose to the Court the status of certification of the Film.

Authorities including the Union Government, the Central Board of Film Certification, producer MM Moviez and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. have been arrayed in the plea as respondents.

The teaser in question was uploaded on the YouTube channel of the Zee Music Company, and as of October 29, the promotional video had garnered more than 15 million views, the plea stated.

According to an NDTV report, the plea alleged that the teaser claims to be inspired by "unbelievable true events" and to expose the "shocking truth" of India's healthcare system, while it shows scenes suggesting private hospitals misuse brain-stem death certifications for organ harvesting and that doctors give priority to commissions over patient care. It has been argued by the petitioners that these allegations are unsupported by any judicial finding, regulatory determination, or official investigation.

Further, the doctors have argued that the teaser goes beyond criticism and encourages hostility towards the medical profession. The plea specifically referred to the concluding scenes in the teaser where the characters ask the viewers to "catch" doctors. Following this, the teaser shows visuals of individuals in hospital attire being assaulted.

In the plea, to explain the real-world impact of the content of the movie, the doctors have also cited online comments that allegedly advocated violence against doctors.

Filing the petition, the doctors have sought suspension of the exhibition of the controversial teaser across all digital platforms. Further, it seeks directions to block access under provisions of the Information Technology Act, and intervention of CBFC. It has also sought mandatory disclaimers that would clarify that the film is fictional. Directions requiring regulatory scrutiny of film teasers and trailers before online release have also been sought.

This is not the only plea that has been filed against the movie. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a plea was filed before the Delhi HC seeking a stay on the theatrical release of the Sunny Deol-starrer movie, alleging that the film portrays the medical profession in a manner that could malign the image of doctors and depicts violence against healthcare professionals as justified.

The petition was filed on October 27 by Dr. Dhruv Chauhan and Dr. Nachiketa Bhatia from Legal Cell for All India Doctors, and it seeks an interim stay on the film's theatrical release, scheduled for November 20, 2026.

Ever since the release of the movie's teaser, it has received strong criticism from the members of the medical fraternity. On October 22, 2026, the Indian Medical Association wrote to Ashwini Yadav, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting, requesting an urgent review of the film- especially its portrayal of medical professionals and instances of violence against healthcare workers.

The Haryana chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) wrote to the CBFC alleging that the Sunny Deol-starrer movie "Suryaa-Aarambh Se Ant Tak" maligns the entire medical profession for its wrongful portrayal.

IMA has protested against the concerned movie, alleging that the trailer of the movie "maligns the entire medical profession by portraying doctors as corrupt and accusing them of over-investigation and unnecessary tests." IMA demanded an immediate stay on the release of the movie till objectionable scenes are deleted and the film is previewed by IMA representatives.

The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) also wrote to the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in this regard, seeking a considered review of the movie before its release.
