The incident took place on April 14 (Friday) when the doctor was alone at his house. After returning from the hospital, the doctor was sleeping in his room when suddenly he heard the sound of some intruders breaking into his house and woke up.
In an attempt to confront the gang, the doctor was outnumbered and as a result, was tied up with a rope while the gang was robbing the house. While trying to confront them, the doctor had a cut injury on his hand when he accidentally grabbed the knife the gang was wielding, TOI reports.
Before leaving, the gang untied his hands and instructed him to go out after a while. As he rushed out and raised an alarm, neighbours came to his aid. The neighbours then contacted the police and rushed him to Palani GH.
Dindigul SP V Baskaran who visited the spot said they have got several leads and the accused will be picked up soon. Police said the gang conversed in Tamil and would have known the doctor.
While investigating the case, the police asked the doctor's wife about her whereabouts and in response, she said was away in Chennai to see their daughter.
A case was registered by the police against the gang and an investigation is underway to nab them.
