Telangana: 872 teaching faculty to be recruited at 8 new medical colleges
Hyderabad: The Telangana health department has authorized the recruitment of 872 teaching faculty positions for Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor in the 8 newly established government medical colleges and general hospitals in the state.
A total of 109 posts - 25 professor posts, 28 associate professor posts and 56 assistant professor posts will be filled in each college and the recruitment will be made on a contractual basis till March 31, 2025.
A government order (GO) issued in this regard on July 13 mentioned, "The permission is to engage the faculty on contract basis till March 31, 2025, or till the regular posts are filled-up or till the actual need ceases, whichever is earlier."

In total, there will be 200 Professors, 224 Associate Professors, and 448 Assistant Professors, making a total of 872 faculty members who will be employed on a contractual basis across the eight medical colleges. These eight new medical colleges include Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mulugu, Narasampet, Medak, Yadadri Bhongir, Maheshwaram and Quthbullapur. These posts will be filled under the administrative control of the Director of Medical Education (DME).
As per a Telangana Today news report, the monthly remuneration for a Professor is Rs 1,90,000, for Associate Professors it is Rs 1,50,000 and for Assistant Professors Rs 1,25,000.
Medical Dialogues team in July 2023 reported that the state government approved eight medical colleges to start functioning from the next academic year 2024-25 in each district. Around 800 MBBS seats were added to the state's existing seat matrix for undergraduate courses to provide career opportunities for medical aspirants residing in each district.
At present, 42 medical colleges in Telangana collectively offer 6690 MBBS seats in Telangana. Of these 42, 19 government medical colleges with 2990 MBBS seats and 23 private medical colleges in Telangana offer 3700 MBBS seats in Telangana. For postgraduate studies, 15 medical colleges are offering 1164 PG seats in MD/MS/Diploma programs. For super speciality studies, 5 medical colleges are offering 20 seats in Dm/MCH programs.
