Treatment at Gun Point! Doctor held guilty for carrying Gun, treating patients in drunken state
Lucknow: The Government probe has found a UP based doctor guilty of misconduct for treating patient in an inebriated state and carrying a gun with him.
This comes after a video of Dr. Singh, a Government employee went viral on social media where he was seen writing prescription to patients while a pistol was lying on the table. Apart from this, in another video, the doctor was seen treating patients in an inebriated state, reports TOI.
After the videos went viral the Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister of UP, Brajesh Pathak took cognizance of the matter and directed the Director General, Medical and Health (DGMH) to initiate a probe. Yesterday, the DGMH confirmed that the doctor had been found guilty in the probe as he was treating patients in a drunken state.
Already the doctor, who was earlier working at Malihabad CHC has been transferred as a punishment for carrying a gun while treating the patient. However, the gun was reportedly licensed on the orders of CMO Dr. Manoj Agrawal.

As per the latest media report by Navbharat Times, in the past several allegations had been brought against Dr. Singh and he was given opportunities to rectify his mistakes. In the recent video a pistol was seen to be lying on the table and it was claimed that the gun was licensed. However, action has been taken against the doctor for creating a ruckus during treatment of patients. As a punishment, the doctor has now been transferred to set an example that indiscipline shall not be tolerated.
TOI adds the doctor was already facing an inquiry for another video that went viral on March 9. In that video, the doctor was seen treating patients in a drunken state.
Although the investigation in that matter was pending, recently directions had been issued by the CMO to expedite the probe.
Earlier, the Health Minister of the State Brajesh Pathak had stated in declared in his Tweet about his directions to suspend the doctor in case he is found to be guilty.
Now, the DGMH, Dr. Ved Vrat Singh has confirmed that the doctor has been found guilty in the probe and also termed that being on duty in a drunken state was a lapse on the part of the doctor. The probe report was prepared only after the authorities spoke to the patients and colleagues of the doctor.
While commenting on the matter, Dr. Ved Vrat Singh told TOI, "Dr Jitendra Singh has been found guilty of being on duty in an inebriated state which is a severe lapse on his part. We will send the report to the government on Monday for further action. He has already been transferred to Nagram for indiscipline but I am not aware if he has joined there or not."
"We cannot terminate his services without an extensive inquiry and the permission of the UPPSC. Generally, officers are transferred, warned or their annual increment may be stopped for two years or more. Stricter action is a tedious process which has to be initiated by the government," he added.
