Trying to retrieve mobile phone, 2 junior doctors from MGM medical college drown in Jharkhand's Dimna Lake
Jamshedpur: In an unfortunate incident, two junior resident doctors of the state-run MGM Medical College and Hospital drowned to death in the prohibited danger zone of Dimna lake in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district.
Three doctors had gone to the lake. While two doctors lost their lives, the third, a junior doctor from the same institute, survived.
The incident took place on Friday when they had gone to Dimna Lake in Jamshedpur around 3 am for a stroll when one of them accidentally dropped his mobile phone into the water near the lake's sluice gates. One of the doctors entered the reservoir to retrieve the phone but began drowning after venturing into deep water.
MGM Hospital's Superintendent Dr Balram Jha quoted by PTI said, "The other two jumped in to rescue him. One of them managed to swim back to safety, while the remaining two drowned."

Deputy Superintendent of Police Dayanand Kumar said police, along with civil defence personnel and divers, launched a rescue operation immediately after being informed of the incident.
"The bodies were recovered after an operation lasting more than four hours and have been sent for post-mortem examination," he said.
Dayanand Kumar, Patamda DSP, told HT, "Preliminary investigation suggests that the three doctors had gone to Dimna Lake around 3 AM on Friday and were apparently having a party on the lakeside radial gate slope."
Following the incident, the police were informed and officer-in-charge (OC) Neeraj Kumar was the first to reach the accident spot.
He said, "The Tata Steel security guard at Dimna Lake had asked the three doctors not to go towards the slope as it was a declared danger zone. But they didn’t listen. The guard called me at 3.46 AM when we were busy in a raid. Then the call came from the control room. We immediately rushed to the spot but only one doctor was lying on the bank. His statement couldn’t be recorded yet. The bodies were recovered with the help of a team of seven local divers from Mirzadih led by specialist diver *** of Tata Steel security and civil defence, after a three-hour rescue and search operation."
