Udipi: A laparoscopic surgeon from a private hospital in Brahmavar of Udupi district has been booked after police registered a suo moto case against him for his alleged tweet towards the Muslim community which was deemed offensive and provocative causing public outrage.
In a post on 'X', a person on July 13 asked the doctor “If you could remove one thing from this world, what would it be?”. In response, the doctor replied, “Muslim community.”
The post soon went viral causing significant controversy and receiving public outrage on social media. Many users tagged the Karnataka DGP on X demanding action against the doctor for the controversial tweet. After receiving backlash and criticism from the 'X' users, the doctor allegedly deleted his 'X' account.

Through a new account open on 'X", the doctor later claimed "I had stopped using Twitter a few months back and realized something unwanted was posted. Someone was using my account. I have changed my password, login details, and everything related to the account. My account was hacked. Apologies to all here."
Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of the fact-checking organization Alt News, pointed out that Dr *** had deleted the controversial tweet and locked his new X profile, preventing access to his account and tweets.
Following the viral post, the Udupi police registered a suo moto case and the doctor has been booked under Sections 196 (promoting enmity between groups on grounds of religion, race, and place of birth) and 353 (Statements conducive to public mischief) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Udupi Superintendent of Police K. Arun told The Hindu, “We are verifying whether this X account is of the doctor from Brahmavar." The case is under investigation.
