Violence at UP Hospital: 3 resident doctors brutally attacked by mob over negligence allegations

Saharanpur: A disturbing incident unfolded at the emergency ward of Sarsawa Medical College on Sunday morning when a mob of around 25-30 people, reportedly relatives of a 16-year-old critically ill road traffic accident patient, turned violent and allegedly brutally thrashed the resident doctors, accusing them of negligence in treatment.
Three doctors sustained serious injuries, including head and clavicle trauma, while several others, including female doctors and nurses, were manhandled. One of the injured doctors suffered a severe clavicle fracture and was admitted to the hospital.
The mob not only assaulted the doctors but also vandalised hospital property, spreading panic among patients and their attendants who were present in the emergency ward and had to flee for safety.

A video of the incident, capturing the horrific and disturbing scenes inside the hospital, quickly went viral on social media. The footage shows a chaotic atmosphere, with patients lying on beds while, in the center of the emergency ward, the mob can be seen brutally assaulting doctors and hospital staff. Chairs were thrown at them in a violent attempt to cause serious injuries.
The incident took place around 10 a.m. when relatives from Bhatpura village brought 16-year-old Naveed to the emergency room. Naveed had suffered grave injuries in an accident, and doctors on duty - Dr. Arvind Pathak, Dr. Mayank Puruthi, and Dr. Harshit immediately began his treatment.
Dr. Arvind Pathak explained that Naveed was in a critical state, bleeding from his ears and nose and vomiting blood. Despite efforts to stabilise him, the doctors informed the family that his condition was severe. However, the news triggered anger among the attendees.
According to the doctors, the relatives began accusing the medical staff of negligence, insisting that the boy had been fine moments earlier. Despite doctors explaining that the boy had suffered a severe head injury, the family refused to listen, hurling abuse before launching a violent attack.
As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, Emergency Medical Officer Dr. Kush Chauhan said that a crowd of nearly 25 to 30 attendants started thrashing the doctors. The relatives began throwing chairs and assaulting medical staff. When other doctors intervened, they too were attacked. Bloodstains covered the floor as the mob fled with the patient’s body before police arrived.
Three doctors were seriously injured and had to be admitted for treatment. Other doctors and nurses, who received minor injuries, were given first aid and discharged.
Amid the commotion, someone recorded the attack on a mobile phone, and the video quickly went viral on social media. The violence was also captured on the hospital's CCTV cameras.
Police later registered an FIR against the attackers based on a complaint by Dr Chauhan. Authorities assured an investigation, but tensions remain high as medical staff demand stricter security measures.
