Emergency Services at the hospital were shut for some time after the incident. Protesting doctors demanded action against the accused and sought protection against such incidents in future.
As per the police, an FIR was lodged in the matter. The accused have been identified, while a detailed probe is underway into the matter, police said.
According to police, a woman who suffered nose injuries came to the hospital at night. She was asked to wait as two senior doctors present there were attending to other patients. The woman police said began arguing and called those who were accompanying her.
As per a media report in TNIE, “The nurses said that the two doctors in the emergency block were looking after other patients and asked her to wait. The patient was agitated and her family members started pressuring the staff for immediate treatment. Later, they barged into the doctors’ room and started arguing with them. The hospital officials said that the security guards came in to rescue and disperse the attendants however; they entered again and started beating the doctors." said the source.
An on-duty doctor and other doctors got hurt in the incident. The doctors sustained injuries on their faces and other body parts.
Police have registered a case under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code against the attackers.
