20-year-old accident victim dies at Gurugram hospital, family alleges overcharging

Family Alleges Overcharging After 20-Year-Old Dies at Private Hospital
Gurugram: In a shocking incident, a massive protest broke out at a private hospital in Sector 49 following the death of a 20-year-old CNG auto-rickshaw driver. The family alleged that the hospital continued to charge for treatment even after his death, claiming the bill had exceeded Rs 5 lakh.
The deceased, a resident of Sector 66, met with an accident on Monday and was rushed to the private hospital, where he received treatment in the emergency ward. He remained under treatment for three days. According to his father, when the family requested to transfer him to another hospital, the management informed them that he had passed away.

Speaking to PTI, the deceased’s father said, “When we requested to transfer him to another hospital, the management informed us that he had died. The hospital did not provide any explanation for the cause of death. We were charged under various heads during the treatment. This continued till Wednesday evening.”
Frustrated by the alleged overcharging, family members staged a protest on the hospital campus, which later moved onto the road for about an hour, causing a commotion. The police arrived to counsel the relatives and attempted to contact the hospital management, but were unable to reach them.
The body was sent for postmortem on Thursday and later handed over to the family.
“We have received no complaint yet. The protesters were sent home that night,” said Suresh Kumar, additional SHO of Sadar police station, reports PTI.
