25 Telangana Govt Hospitals grapple with 1,302 vacant posts, says Forum

Doctors
Hyderabad: Following the completion of 25 government hospitals under the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (TVVP), the Forum for Good Governance has raised serious concerns about the lack of staff and faculty in these facilities. The forum has written to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, urging immediate action to address the critical shortages.

In a letter, forum president M Padmanabha Reddy said that although the state government had undertaken the construction of 25 government hospitals, no recruitment had been carried out to meet the staff requirements of these institutions, reports the TNIE. The forum also enclosed a list from the TVVP showing that construction of 25 CHCs, area hospitals, and maternity and child health centres (MCH) had been completed.
According to the TVVP data enclosed with the letter, the hospitals require 1,413 doctors and support staff. However, only 111 personnel are currently in place. Speaking to the Hindu, M. Padmanabha Reddy said that only three hospitals currently have skeletal staff, while 22 others are managed through temporary deputations from other facilities. In some cases, the deputed medical personnel are reportedly not attending duty regularly.
The situation was especially difficult in certain districts: Gajwel had none of its 101 sanctioned posts filled, Kodangal had all 60 positions. The TVVP reportedly informed the forum that these hospitals were functioning with a few deputed staff, many of whom were often absent. This has led to non-operational hospitals, with buildings reportedly deteriorating and being misused.
