30-year-old patient dies during surgery, Berhampur hospital sealed

Family Protests as Berhampur Hospital Sealed Following Young Man’s Death
Berhampur: Following the death of a 30-year-old man from the Tumba Sindarbad area, a private hospital near the new bus stand in Berhampur was sealed on Sunday by district authorities amid allegations of medical negligence.
According to the news reports, the man sustained a shoulder fracture in an accident on December 18. He was initially treated at the Patrapur Community Health Centre and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MCH), Berhampur, on December 19 after his condition failed to improve.

The patient’s surgery was scheduled at Moon Hospital on December 20. According to the family, no pre-operative tests were conducted to assess his vital parameters, and medical reports were not shared with them.
The family alleged that the patient's condition reportedly deteriorated after being administered anaesthesia in the operating theatre. As his condition worsened, the private Hospital authorities shifted him back to the casualty department of MKCG MCH, from where he was moved to the ICU, where doctors later declared him dead.
Speaking to the Argus, relatives claim that wrong anaesthesia led to his death and further accused hospital staff of forcibly obtaining signatures during the emergency.
Following the incident, family members staged a sit-in protest outside the private hospital throughout Sunday night, demanding compensation, seizure of CCTV footage to determine responsibility, and action against the doctor who referred the patient to the private facility.
The demonstration attracted public attention, with local representatives, including a delegate from the Berhampur MP, taking part in the protest.
