7 year old girl dies after leg fracture, family alleges improper treatment
Namakkal: In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old girl died while undergoing treatment after suffering a leg fracture, prompting her parents and relatives to stage a protest by placing her body on the Karur-Namakkal bypass road in Namakkal on Sunday. The family has alleged that improper treatment at a private hospital contributed to her death.
The Class 3 student of Panchayat Union Primary School in Kuppichipalayam suffered a leg fracture while playing at school on August 24. Two days later, her family took her to a private hospital in Paramathi Velur, where she was treated with a plaster cast. However, her condition reportedly deteriorated following the treatment.
According to DT Next, police said, “The girl was taken to two other private hospitals in Paramathi Velur and Namakkal, where doctors, upon examination, informed the family that the condition of the girl’s leg had deteriorated severely.”
The girl was later admitted to the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry on August 30. Her right leg was subsequently amputated up to the knee. Despite undergoing treatment, she died on September 6.
According to News Karnataka, following her death, her parents, along with relatives, gathered outside the private hospital in Paramathi Velur. The family and protesters alleged that improper treatment at the hospital had contributed to the girl’s death and staged a protest after receiving no response from the hospital.
The protesters initially placed the girl’s body on the Paramathi Velur-Namakkal Road and blocked traffic before shifting the protest to the Karur-Namakkal bypass road.
Namakkal Superintendent of Police and other police officials reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. Following the intervention, the protesters withdrew the road blockade.
The girl’s body was subsequently sent to Namakkal Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police also summoned the doctor from the private hospital for questioning. Further inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death is underway.
