BRD Medical College plans 5-storey, 508-bed facility for patient attendants
A five-storey, 508-bed accommodation facility is planned at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur at an estimated cost of Rs 43.69 crore. The facility will provide rooms, dormitories and essential amenities for attendants of patients, particularly families travelling from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal.
Gorakhpur: Families accompanying patients at Uttar Pradesh's Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College may soon have access to dedicated accommodation, with a five-storey, 508-bed facility planned on the medical college campus.
The project, estimated at Rs 43.69 crore, is intended to provide attendants with a secure place to stay during prolonged treatment.
The proposed building will be constructed on a 5,600-square-metre site behind the RMRC-ICMR. The Medical Education Department has already released the first instalment of Rs 5 crore to the executing agency, C&Ds Unit-19 of Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Urban).

The facility will include accommodation spread across the first to fifth floors. The first and second floors will have 56 beds each, while the remaining three floors will accommodate 132 beds each, taking the total capacity to 508 beds, according to The Daily.
The ground-level stilt floor has been planned for essential support facilities, including parking, a dining hall, kitchen, pantry and storage space. The rooms will have attached toilets and bathrooms. The building will also be equipped with a lift with a capacity to carry up to 20 people, along with staircases and CCTV surveillance.
C&Ds-19 Resident Engineer Sandeep Kumar Chaurasia said the tender process had been completed and contract formalities were underway. Construction will begin after the process is completed, reports The Times of India.
The planned accommodation is particularly significant for families who travel long distances to BRD Medical College for treatment. Officials expect the facility to assist attendants coming from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal, reducing the difficulty of finding suitable accommodation while patients undergo treatment.
With dedicated dormitories and supporting amenities planned within the facility, the project is aimed at addressing the accommodation needs of patient attendants alongside the medical services available at the college.
