Death of 30-year-old at Moolchand Hospital Sparks Allegations of Medical Negligence

New Delhi: A 30-year-old man died at Moolchand Hospital in Lajpat Nagar on Thursday while undergoing treatment, prompting his family to file a complaint with the Delhi Police, accusing the hospital of medical negligence.

The police have confirmed receipt of the complaint but stated that no FIR has been registered yet as they await the postmortem report from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The patient was a resident of Agra, was admitted to the hospital on May 6 with complaints of persistent stomach pain. He died less than two weeks later, sparking outrage from his family.

According to his younger brother, doctors initially suspected kidney-related issues and later informed the family that the patient’s left kidney was severely damaged and required immediate removal. Despite undergoing surgery, his condition deteriorated, and he succumbed to the illness on May 15.

In response to the allegations, Moolchand Hospital has denied all charges, stating that the allegations are baseless and that all due protocols were followed during treatment.

A senior officer said that the autopsy had been conducted by a medical board at AIIMS and was video recorded. The body had been handed over to the family, and the autopsy report was awaited before further steps would be taken. As per a 2005 Supreme Court ruling, police are required to obtain expert medical opinion before registering an FIR in cases of alleged medical negligence.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar Singh confirmed that a police team visited Moolchand Hospital and seized the patient's medical treatment records as part of the preliminary inquiry.

According to Hindustan Times, “Our doctors followed all protocols and did their best. The patient’s condition and treatment were communicated to the family at every stage,” the hospital said in a statement.
