Haryana plans to digitally map entire public healthcare network for sinlge-click access

Chandigarh: In a significant move towards strengthening digital healthcare infrastructure, Haryana is planning to bring its entire public healthcare network under a unified digital platform, enabling citizens to locate government hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs), sub-health centres and AYUSH facilities with just a click.
According to the news reports, the initiative will use Geographic Information System (GIS)-based mapping to integrate healthcare infrastructure data from the Health, AYUSH, and Medical Education and Research (MER) departments. The move aims to replace scattered records with a centralised database that will be accessible to the public and help the government improve healthcare planning and administration.

Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Sumita Misra reviewed the progress of the initiative on Saturday, during which GIS mapping data of healthcare facilities across the state was presented.
The proposed platform will provide geographical locations, basic institutional details and photographs of individual healthcare facilities, enabling citizens to identify government medical centres in their respective areas more easily.
Apart from improving public access, the digital database is expected to serve as an important planning and monitoring tool for the government. It will help authorities assess the distribution of healthcare facilities, identify infrastructure gaps and prioritise investments in underserved areas.
Dr Misra emphasised the need to consolidate health department data on a single platform and make it publicly accessible wherever feasible. The initiative is also aimed at improving coordination among departments responsible for different segments of the public healthcare system, reports Economic Times.
The Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), the state's nodal agency for remote sensing and geospatial applications, will provide technical support for managing the GIS database.
The agency will also facilitate the sharing of mapped healthcare information with other government departments.
The integrated database is expected to support evidence-based decision-making in areas such as healthcare infrastructure development, strengthening existing institutions and monitoring the delivery of health services across urban and rural regions.
The initiative marks a significant step towards leveraging geospatial technology beyond the basic identification of healthcare institutions, with a broader focus on improving infrastructure planning, resource allocation, and administrative coordination across Haryana's public healthcare system.
