While speaking with TOI, J Goverdhan Reddy, Malakpet station fire officer said, "After we reached the spot, on one side, we started fire-fighting operations and, on the other, some fire personnel started to break glass panes to diffuse the smoke. When we managed to enter the building, on the first floor we found two new mothers, who gave birth two days ago, struggling to rescue themselves amid thick smoke. The fire first broke out on the ground floor and it rapidly spread to other floors as a lot of papers and other combustible material were dumped. Apart from this, there was false ceiling too."
According to Reddy, the fire team simultaneously managed to switch off the main transformer and another transformer in the surrounding area. The firefighters managed to rescue the patients, though it took two hours to control the fire.
