Jayadeva Institute signs MoU to set up 100-bed cardiac satellite unit in West Bengaluru

100-bed Jayadeva
Bengaluru: In a boost to cardiac care, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research on Friday signed an MoU with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) to set up a 100-bed satellite unit at Govindarajanagara in West Bengaluru.
The project is a promise made in the Budget by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, officials said, adding that it is a significant step towards decentralising cardiac healthcare in the state.
The state government has allocated Rs 15 crore as an initial measure to set up the 100-bed unit.
“This is a great step towards taking cardiac care to the west of Bengaluru,” Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said in a statement issued by his office, reports PTI.

The new unit will be located within the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s existing multispeciality building at Govindarajanagara, and will serve residents of Vijayanagar, Rajajinagar, Yeshwanthpur, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Dasarahalli, Peenya, and Bengaluru Rural, as well as patients from Ramanagara, Mandya, Tumakuru, and Hassan districts, at no or minimal cost.
According to the minister’s office, the unit will provide specialised cardiac care to the large population that currently has to travel long distances.
The satellite facility is also expected to ease the patient burden at Jayadeva’s main hospital in Jayanagar, south Bengaluru, which already operates satellite units in Kalaburagi and Mysuru, it said.
MLA Priya Krishna has committed to ensuring that civil and electrical modifications are funded through the Bengaluru West City Corporation and to establishing a cath lab (catheterisation laboratory) facility under CSR funds.
Jayadeva Hospital Director Dr B Dinesh also announced plans to expand the Jayadeva network across Bengaluru, with units proposed for central, north, and east Bengaluru.
A site for the north Bengaluru unit has already been identified and will be finalised in consultation with Byatarayanapura MLA and Revenue Minister Krishna Byregowda, he said.
In a parallel development, Minister Dr Patil and MLA Priya Krishna directed the Bengaluru West City Corporation to identify at least five acres of government land in the region to establish a new campus of the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMC&RI), extending education and healthcare beyond its current base on K R Road in south Bengaluru, it added.
