Kerala Govt to submit 4 proposed AIIMS locations to Centre

Thiruvananthapuram- To improve healthcare infrastructure, the Kerala government is soon going to submit a list of four proposed locations to the Centre for the establishment of an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the state, Health Minister K. Muraleedharan informed the State Assembly on Monday.
The minister stated that the government would write to the Centre on Tuesday with the proposed sites. He also termed it unfortunate that Kerala has not yet been selected for an AIIMS.
“We will suggest four locations. We will not insist on any one location. They can carry out an inspection and take a decision. The government will provide the necessary land,” he said, according to The Hindu report.
Meanwhile, to improve conditions in government hospitals, government medical colleges have been instructed to ensure that patients do not have to lie on the floor due to a lack of space.
By next week, the Health Department is expected to finalise the measures that include using the vacant wards of the Government Hospital at Pulayanarkotta to accommodate patients from the Government Medical College (GMC), Thiruvananthapuram.
Medical Dialogues had recently reported that in a move aimed at improving healthcare accessibility, Health Minister Shri K Muraleedharan has said the government will consider strengthening Peroorkada District Model Hospital to improve patient care and ease overcrowding at major hospitals.
The announcement was made after the minister held discussions with senior officials regarding the development requirements of Peroorkada District Model Hospital. During the review, he noted that the hospital’s existing services should be utilised more effectively and that expansion of facilities would help divert patient load from the medical college hospital.
