Maha: COVID ward with 30 beds opens at Sassoon and YCM hospitals
Pune: The Sassoon hospital has set up a 30-bedded Covid ward following a surge in the number of covid patients admitted to the hospital. The Covid cases are rising high across the region with 10 Covid positive patients admitted to the hospital.
The Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad also has set up a 30-bedded Covid ward at the Akurdi hospital with two hospitalised patients and one in the ICU.
Sassoon hospital has been on the frontline at the time of the pandemic sheltering many patients and providing treatments to them. However, the government is concerned over the spike in the hospitalization of Covid patients due to the past experiences in the covid times.

In a few other states, the government has already provided the guidelines by directing the hospital to conduct the test and increase the bed capacity of the covid wards.
Sassoon's dean V P Kale told TOI, "We have set up a 30-bed ward as a precautionary measure. It is a routine practice. If the number of cases increases, we can always increase the beds."
YCMH dean Rajendra Wabale said "The senior citizen was here for a different ailment and had underlying conditions. He tested positive. If the need arises, we can increase the number of beds and stop non-Covid treatment in Akurdi hospital. At present, the number of hospitalisations is low. We are monitoring the situation."

Sanjay Patil, the chairman, of IMA'S Hospital Board of India, Pune chapter, said, "Private hospitals have seen a rise in the number of suspects with flu-like symptoms in the past few days. Many private centres treat non-Covid patients, but if they come across patients with Covid symptoms, they are instructed to undergo RT-PCR test to confirm whether the symptoms relate to the contagion."
