Mumbai: Patient's Diamond earrings stolen at Asian Heart Institute, FIR lodged
Mumbai: An FIR has been lodged by the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) police against the Asian Heart Institute for allegedly stealing a patient's diamond earrings which were their family heirloom.
The complainant has been identified as 37-year-old Sandeep Visariya, a garment trader and a resident in Sewree.
The incident took place on January 20 this year, when Sandeep admitted her 72-year-old mother to the institute due to a lack of oxygen in her lungs during the pandemic period. As per the COVID-19 rules, no one was allowed to visit her as she was admitted to the ICU. After she was shifted to a normal bed, her son noticed that her diamond earrings were missing from her ears. The earrings cost around Rs 7 lakh. He said that "I clearly remember her wearing the earrings when she was admitted".

Unable to get her earring, he asked the nurse regarding the matter to which they assured him that they will look after the matter and soon he will get back her earrings. However, he did not hear from the nurse for three days in this regard.
He told the free press journal about the information he received when he asked another nurse about the matter, "I was told that the earrings were removed as per the hospital's rules and were placed in the cupboard at the ICU, but had gone missing from there. They requested me to not lodge any kind of official complaint, and assured me that they would get to the bottom of the matter."
On February 2, his mother got discharged from the hospital but yet there was no improvement in the case regarding her mother's diamond earrings and he also received no response from the institute.
Finally, he filed a complaint on Thursday against the nursing staff of the institute and the FIR was registered under Sections 408 and 419 IPC and an investigation is underway.
