Nagpur Hospital faces negligence allegations after stillborn baby delivered

Medical Negligence
Nagpur: Allegations of medical negligence have surfaced at a private hospital in south Nagpur after a couple lost their newborn son during delivery on Sunday morning. The family raised concerns after noticing injury-like marks on the baby’s body, prompting police to register a case of accidental death and send the body for a postmortem examination.
According to police, the woman, who was expecting her first child, was admitted to the hospital around 11 pm on Saturday after experiencing discomfort. A Caesarean section was performed at around 11 am on Sunday, following which a stillborn boy was delivered.

The family alleged that marks resembling injuries were visible on the baby's body, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the delivery. The incident reportedly led to tension at the hospital, where relatives and friends gathered and demanded an explanation from the hospital management.
Following the incident, hospital officials called the police, and a team from Sakkardara police station arrived at the premises. Senior Inspector Manoj Pawar said the police recorded statements from both the family and the hospital staff.
"The relatives said the baby had some injury marks. According to the doctors, these were pre-birth blisters and skin conditions that were perceived as injury marks. The postmortem report will give us a clear picture," Pawar said. "We have registered a case of accidental death," he said, reports TOI.
Police insisted on a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death and determine the nature of the marks. Although the family members were initially reluctant, they later agreed to the examination.
Meanwhile, the family alleged lapses in medical care during the woman’s admission. According to relatives, she had been receiving treatment at the same hospital since the first month of her pregnancy.
Speaking to TOI, one relative said, "The doctor concerned did not turn up at night when she was admitted. The doctor should have diagnosed the problem at night itself."
The family further claimed that hospital staff had assured them that her condition was normal after her admission.
The postmortem report is expected to provide further clarity on the cause of the baby’s death. The allegations of medical negligence remain unverified, and the investigation is ongoing.
