Nalgonda hospital faces probe after records show 191 deaths over 3 years

According to the Daily, authorities seized case sheets, medical bills, and other documents for a detailed investigation into suspected medical negligence. The probe is also looking into allegations of irregularities in billing, with complainants claiming that the hospital collected excessively high charges similar to those imposed by leading corporate hospitals in Hyderabad. Officials obtained sample bills for verification as part of the inquiry, reports The New Indian Express.

The hospital has also been accused of shifting patients to the Government General Hospital when their families were unable to meet the treatment costs. Government doctors reportedly stated that around five to six patients from Icon Hospital were being transferred to the government facility each day.

After the inspection, it was found that the doctors, on whose qualifications the authorities relied to issue the operational permission to the hospital, are no longer working in the facility. The inspection team also took note of details like educational credentials, medical council registration, and records of visiting doctors currently associated with the hospital, reports the daily.

According to DMHO, a team comprising medical and technical specialists would be responsible for assessing the seized records, and in case of any medical negligence or violations, the person responsible, if found guilty, will have to face serious consequences.
