Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation launches 50-bed free dialysis centre in Vashi

Navi Mumbai- Taking a significant step in dialysis care, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has inaugurated Maharashtra's largest 50-bed free dialysis facility, aimed at providing affordable kidney treatment to needy patients completely free of cost.
The new centre has been established in the Vivekananda Cultural Centre building located in Vashi Sector 14, and it is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden on patients requiring regular dialysis treatment, reports UNI.
Recently, Municipal Commissioner Kailash Shinde inspected this facility centre. He was accompanied by Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, Additional City Engineer Arvind Shinde, Medical Health Officer Dr. Rajesh Mhatre, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Ajay Gadde, and Deputy Commissioner Smita Kale.
While inspecting the centre, the commissioner directed officials to widely disseminate information regarding the dialysis centre, so that needy citizens can avail themselves of the facilities available there, reports TOI.
Shinde stated that, keeping in view the growing need for dialysis, the Municipal Corporation has made available dialysis facilities totalling 85 beds. Of these, 50 beds are housed under a single roof at this specialised dialysis centre, 10 are at the Corporation's Vashi Public Hospital, 11 at Nerul Hospital, 11 at Airoli Hospital, and three at the centre located in CBD Belapur.
Meanwhile, since opening in January, more than 1,000 patients have received treatment at this specialised dialysis centre.
Each dialysis session typically costs between ₹3,000 and ₹3,500, making it a burden for many patients who require treatment two to three times a week. Therefore, this free facility is expected to benefit a large number of economically disadvantaged patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases.
The initiative reflects the Municipal Corporation's effort aimed at strengthening public health services and ensuring that life-saving treatments, such as dialysis, remain accessible to all sections of society, particularly those unable to afford private treatment.
