New 100-bed ESIC Hospital approved for Derabassi

Mohali: The 100-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital has been approved for Derabassi, marking a significant step forward in improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.

At present, employees in Dera Bassi and adjoining industrial zones rely on ESI facilities located in Ludhiana, Mohali, and Chandigarh, which are insufficient to meet the growing healthcare demand. This step will reduce the patient load on existing ESI hospitals and promote industrial welfare and social security in Punjab’s key industrial belt, reports Punjab News Express.

Derabassi MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh for the decision, calling it a “big step towards improving medical facilities” in the region.

According to Randhawa, the hospital will be constructed by the Centre, while the Punjab government has allocated four acres of land for the project.

Speaking to TOI, he added that the facility will not only benefit the residents of Derabassi, but also thousands of industrial workers and nearby villagers who currently travel long distances for treatment.

The proposed ESIC hospital is expected to provide maternal and child healthcare, emergency services, diagnostic facilities, and specialist OPDs, ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for the local population.

Medical Dialogues had previously reported that, in a major move aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities in Belagavi, the Directorate of E.S.I.S Medical Services announced the transfer of all staff from the current ESI Hospital in Ashok Nagar. The transfer, effective immediately, is part of a plan to demolish the existing hospital building and replace it with a state-of-the-art, modern facility. According to the notification, the staff has been directed to transfer the hospital to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
