Patient Alleged Violation of Privacy During ECG, Hiranandani Hospital orders Probe
Mumbai: Dr. LH Hiranandani Hospital in Powai set to investigate a violation of patient privacy as a housekeeping staff walked in during a woman's electrocardiogram (ECG) test. The incident went viral on the internet and has sparked quite a controversy for the hospital. The hospital formed an internal committee to investigate the said matter.
The victim is a writer aged 35 who went to the hospital for an ECG on April 2. Before the incident happened, a nurse assured her of her privacy as she had earlier requested the nurse to conduct her ECG in a private room. After she went for the ECG, a housekeeper went inside while she was in an odd situation.

While speaking with HT, she said, "The curtains were drawn but he still came inside while I was in that compromising position. I feel exposed and embarrassed and my privacy is violated. The hospital should have ensured that as a patient I feel safe."
She then wrote about the incident to one of the hospital managers. After hearing about the matter, the hospital assured that they will take action against the housekeeping staff and the concerned nurse for breach of patient privacy but is yet to do.

The committee created for the investigation is expected to conduct a meeting on Monday.
Responding to the matter, the hospital spokesperson told "We will certainly investigate this incident in the next two working days and take appropriate action. The housekeeping staff was unaware of the patient inside and entered the cubicle to retrieve the ECG machine. He immediately rushed out and informed the nurse. The duty manager was informed and came to the emergency department. She investigated the matter and realised the error had been made unknowingly. However, the manager and the housekeeping staff and the nurse profusely apologized for the mistake."
