Patna: Man caught running cash for beds scam at IGIMS, arrested

Accused arrested
Patna: In a shocking case, a 50-year-old man was arrested for allegedly cheating patients and their families by promising to secure beds at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). Police apprehended him from the hospital’s emergency ward while he was reportedly attempting to extort money from a patient’s relative, a senior official confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the news reports, the accused exploited anxious relatives who are seeking admission at IGIMS. He allegedly redirected them to private hospitals across Patna, including Boring Road, Digha Aashiyana, Bailey Road, Rajabazar, and Pataliputra, charging fees under the pretext of arranging government hospital beds. He received a commission for this.

Police investigations have also revealed that a security guard at IGIMS may have colluded with the broker to manipulate bed allocations, conduct tests, and refer patients to private hospitals.
The accused, a resident of Muzaffarpur district, has been sent to jail. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify other individuals who may have been part of the scam.
Following the incident, the hospital administration has decided to increase security and surveillance around the emergency ward and OPD. There is widespread anger among patients and their families after the incident came to light, while the administration is working to apprehend the entire network, reports the Prabhat Khabar.
