Prayagraj Hospital sealed, registration suspended over irregularities

Prayagraj: Following a surprise inspection, a joint team from the health, revenue, and police departments suspended the registration and sealed a hospital at Habua turn in Prayagraj on Wednesday due to alleged serious irregularities.
The inspection was led by a Deputy Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and uncovered serious irregularities. At the time of the visit, all medical and paramedical staff were absent, with only one doctor present.
The only person present was a doctor who is currently working on contract at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Karchana. When officials asked him about the hospital’s registration and its renewal status, he said that the concerned authorities had already applied for the renewal.

After the inspection, the hospital’s registration was suspended, and the premises were sealed, reported TOI.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that, over the past three months, the Madhya Pradesh Health Department has cancelled the registration of 11 private nursing homes and sealed them accordingly in violation of serious patient safety protocols.
The action was taken after these hospitals were found operating with untrained nursing staff, poor infrastructure, no certified MBBS doctors and not enough medical equipment. These nursing homes also lacked proper registration.
The nursing homes include Suyash Hospital (Sehore), Muskan Hospital (Bilkisganj), Vedansh Multi-Speciality Hospital (Ahmedpur), Multicare Journal Hospital (Rehti), Imhotep Hospital (Bhairunda), Likhitkar Hospital (Shyampur), Siddhi Vinayak Hospital (Doraha), MM Hospital and Research Centre (Sehore), Arogya Hospital (Ichhawar), and Devanchal Nursing Home.
The violations came to light after Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Sudhir Kumar Deharia ordered inspections across hospitals in both city and rural areas based on complaints. A seven-member investigation team comprising DHO, BMO, medical officers, and other staff conducted the inspection, which revealed that many of these facilities were run by BHMS doctors without the mandatory presence of MBBS professionals. Some were even violating norms despite being approved under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
