Pregnant woman dies at Hazaribagh hospital, sparks negligence allegations

Medical Negligence
Hazaribag: In an alleged case of medical negligence, a pregnant woman died under mysterious circumstances at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) in Hazaribag on Saturday night. The incident has sparked outrage among locals and led to accusations of negligence against hospital staff.
According to the victim’s family, Babli Kumari was admitted to the hospital late Saturday evening after she went into labour. She was reportedly taken to the operating theatre (OT) for delivery, where she allegedly fell from the bed, sustaining severe injuries. The family rushed her to a private hospital, but doctors there declared her dead on arrival, along with her unborn child.
Following the incident, angry relatives and locals gathered at the hospital and staged a protest, accusing doctors and hospital staff of negligence.

However, hospital authorities have disputed the family’s version of events.
Speaking to TOI, Civil surgeon Dr Ashok Kumar accepted that the patient fell off the bed, but also said that the family shouldn’t have shifted her to a private hospital without the doctors’ advice. “If the patient had not taken away, she could have survived,” Dr Kumar said.

Dr Purti added that, despite the allegations, a probe has been ordered to ascertain the facts.
The situation further escalated when the pregnant woman’s relatives removed the body from the hospital and proceeded to perform her last rites at Khirgaon Muktidham without allowing a post-mortem examination.
