RIMS Adilabad nursing officer arrested over alleged sexual harassment of PG student

Arrested
Adilabad: In a shocking incident, a male nursing officer was arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a postgraduate medical student inside the operation theatre of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Government Hospital in Adilabad.
As per the news reports, the incident took place on the night of May 9 at the government-run hospital in Adilabad. Police stated that the accused allegedly approached the PG medical student around midnight after completing his duty and sexually harassed her while she was leaving the operating theatre.

The victim reportedly raised an alarm, prompting the accused to flee from the spot immediately.
Subsequently, the victim submitted a formal complaint to RIMS Director Jai Singh Rathod. In response, the hospital administration constituted a seven-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
The committee recorded the victim’s statement, examined available evidence, and reportedly confirmed the allegations against the nursing officer. Based on the committee’s findings, the victim approached the police and filed an official complaint.
Following the complaint, the Two Town police arrested the accused and remanded him to judicial custody, officials said.
Calling it a “very sad incident”, the RIMS director said departmental action would also be initiated against the accused and such incidents would not be tolerated, reports TNIE.
The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the safety and security of medical students and healthcare staff working during late-night hours in government hospitals.
Medical Dialogues had previously reported that the Andhra Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary proceedings following allegations of sexual harassment involving female students at Dr Nori Rama Sastry Government (NRS) Ayurvedic Medical College, Vijayawada, suspending a medical officer and a lab technician, while relieving the college principal and professor of their duties.
