Sabarmati hospital employee allegedly sexually assaults ICU patient

Sexual Assault
Ahmedabad: A hospital employee has been accused of sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman while she was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Sabarmati following an overdose attempt. The Sabarmati police have registered a complaint against the accused in connection with the incident.
According to the first information report (FIR), the woman, who was married two years ago, had been living with her parents due to ongoing marital discord with her husband and in-laws. On the night of October 19, she reportedly consumed multiple sleeping pills, after which her parents rushed her to a hospital in the Sabarmati area. She was admitted to the ICU, where she remained semi-conscious due to heavy medication and was confined to her bed.

The woman informed the hospital staff on duty about the alleged incident and requested that her parents be called. When her parents arrived at the hospital, she narrated the alleged assault to them. Her father reportedly requested hospital authorities to review CCTV footage from the ICU area to identify the person involved, but the family alleged that their request was ignored.
Police said the family later learned the identity of the hospital staffer, a resident of the Asarwa area, who was present in the ward at the time of the alleged incident.
The woman was discharged from the hospital on October 20, but her health reportedly deteriorated the same night, following which she was admitted to another medical facility for further treatment. Even after returning home, she continued to experience headaches and physical discomfort and sought outpatient treatment. She also stayed with relatives for some time to recover, as stated in the FIR.
