Sanitation worker caught on video allegedly giving injections to patients, probe ordered
Singrauli: A sanitation worker was allegedly seen administering injections to patients at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, in a viral video that went viral on social media, prompting the health department to order an inquiry into the incident.
The video purportedly shows the worker giving injections to male and female patients. The footage has raised concerns over patient safety and the alleged involvement of unqualified staff in medical procedures.
According to news reports, local residents claimed that sanitation workers are sometimes made to assist patients when doctors and trained paramedical staff are unavailable. They alleged that such workers have been involved in administering injections and distributing medicines at the facility.
The incident comes shortly after a similar episode was reported from the Chitrangi area, where a security guard was allegedly seen administering an intravenous drip to a patient at a government healthcare facility.
The latest video has prompted district health authorities to investigate whether the sanitation worker actually administered the injections, why he was performing the procedure and whether qualified medical personnel were available at the time.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Singrauli's Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Pushpraj Singh Thakur, stated, "This video is circulating on social media, and we have taken cognizance of it”.
Thakur said that a team has been constituted to investigate the matter. “Action will be taken against those found guilty; if such negligence has indeed occurred, it is a serious issue, and the department will take appropriate action following the investigation," he said.
The incident has renewed concerns about staff shortages, supervision and patient safety at government healthcare facilities. It also comes amid recent scrutiny of hospital safety in the state following a neonatal death after a fire at a district hospital in Chhindwara.
