Shortage of Radiographers at Karnal Government hospitals
Karnal: The Karnal Civil hospital has been facing a shortage of radiographers and there are vacancies left at the hospital. Patients are complaining about the current situation as they are not able to get X-ray done at the hospital.
Nearly 13 radiographer post are available out of 17 in the district including all the Community Health Centres. There are six radiographer posts sanctioned at the Karnal Civil Hospital, four of which have been vacant for several months.
According to an official, people living in rural areas do not have access to radiographers to get X-rays or CT scans. As a result, they are forced to visit the Civil Hospital and have to wait in queue to get the tests done.

Similarly, patients have been referred to private hospital due to the shortage of radiographers in the district. Even government hospitals in Assandh are facing the same issue.
While speaking with The Tribune, a doctor at a rural CMC said "We have to send the cases with injuries in thrashing and clash to district headquarters, as we do not have a radiographer to perform X-ray."
Despite the recent sanction of radiographer posts in each Community Health Center (CHC) in Kunjpura, Nissing, Sambhli, Ballah, Nigdhu, Gharaunda, Taraori, and Indri, only the government hospital in Nilokheri and Gharaunda have them.

The Health Minister has been informed of the situation but no action has been taken so far said Shamsher Singh Gogi, Congress MLA from Assandh.
Dr Yogesh Sharma, Civil Surgeon, said "We have sent the demand to the higher authorities to fill the vacant posts regularly. Services are being extended to the general public with the existing staff. We are hopeful that the number of radiographers will be raised in a few days."
