According to their statement, the baby went missing at approximately 1830 hours. The parents had brought their elder son to the hospital due to illness, and while one of them went to collect food offered by the hospital, they temporarily left their younger son. Upon returning, they were devastated to discover that their baby was missing.
As per a media report in TOI, In her complaint, the child's mother, 26-year-old Fareeda Begum, stated the incident took place when she had stepped out of the ward to get food and suspected that her son could have been taken away by a woman who she had befriended at the hospital.
''This woman warmed up to Fareeda telling her that she too had a two-year-old undergoing treatment there for an eye ailment,'' said B Abhilash, inspector of Nampally Police station.
The police acted swiftly, registering a case and launching an investigation. They are utilising available CCTV footage to aid in the search for the missing child.
Informing that most of the CCTVs in the hospital facility are not functional, an official said,'' The one at the main gate is working but some of the cameras need repair. One was installed at the old building but it does not cover the entry or exit areas. Also since it was raining on Thursday, the ones that were working have a hazy recording.''
Further investigation is currently underway.
