Snake spotted near OPD window at Indore Govt Hospital, video goes viral
Indore: A snake was reportedly spotted on the premises of the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Chikitsalaya (MYH) hospital in Indore on Tuesday morning, prompting concern among hospital staff.
A video showing the snake crawling near a window of the Out-Patient Department (OPD) went viral. Notably, MYH, one of the largest government hospitals in Madhya Pradesh, had last year reported the deaths of two infants after they were bitten by rats in the ICU.
Hospital Superintendent Dr Ashok Yadav told PTI that while cleaning the premises after the OPD opened at 8 am, a staff member spotted a snake near the window.
“A female security guard showed courage and removed it. It did not harm anyone,” he said.

The Superintendent did not disclose the species of the snake but claimed that it was not poisonous.
According to Dr Yadav, construction and tree-cutting work was ongoing on the hospital campus, and the snake might have entered the OPD building from there.
Questions have been raised about the presence of vermin and cats on the MYH premises in the past.
Officials said that a cat had been spotted in the OPD in February, and the staff even placed a cage to capture it. The contractor agency, HLL, was fined Rs 50,000 for negligence in maintaining cleanliness.
In 2025, two newborn girls were attacked by rats in the MYH Intensive Care Unit, leading to their deaths. But the administration had claimed that the deaths were unrelated to rat bites and that they had succumbed to pre-existing health conditions.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that chaos erupted at a government hospital in Bihar after a snakebite patient arrived with the live cobra that had allegedly bitten him. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing the man opening a box containing the snake and leaving the patients and hospital staff shocked.
