Stone in Right Kidney, Surgery performed on Left! Haryana Hospital, Doctor Booked for negligence
Rewari: Acting on a medical negligence complaint, the city police has booked a private hospital and its doctor after it was found that the treating doctor conducted surgery on the left kidney of a patient even though it was diagnosed that the patient had a stone in the right kidney. Although the incident took place in February and the complaint was also lodged back then by the patient's husband, an FIR has been registered now after the Medical Board of the Civil Hospital completed an inquiry into the matter.
The case goes back to February 13, 2024, when the complainant's wife, who hails from Rathawas village in Gurugram, was suffering from Stomach pain and was admitted to a private hospital on Bawal Road in the city.
Based on the doctor's advice, an ultrasound was done and consequently, the doctor at the private hospital diagnosed stone in her right kidney and advised her to get the treatment done in another hospital in Rewari.

Consequently, the surgery was performed and the patient was discharged two days later. However, four days after returning home, they noticed that the discharge summary mentioned that the surgery was performed on the left side.
"We went to that hospital, where she was operated upon. After she was discharged, we went through the discharge summary and saw that it was written that the operation had been conducted on the left side," stated the Complaint, The Tribune has reported.
As per the latest media report by Free Press Journal, on February 23, the complainant met the doctor again and the doctor initially insisted that there was no mistake and the surgery was done correctly. When the complainant questioned why the surgery was done on left kidney when the problem was with the right one, the doctor offered to perform another surgery free of cost on the right kidney. However, the complainant refused and got the surgery done at another hospital. The Complainant informed that the negligence by the doctor put his wife's life at risk, causing significant mental distress to the family.
'We met the doctor on February 24. He denied any negligence during the operation but could not give any satisfactory reply to our question. Finally, the doctor asked me to go for another surgery to remove the stone stating that he would not charge any fee. I refused and got my wife’s surgery done at another hospital," the Complainant told The Tribune.
Consequently, the police wrote to the Civil Surgeon's Office, Rewari to conduct an inquiry into the matter. Following this, the Medical Board for Negligence submitted its report to the police, stating that the doctor was negligent while treating the patient.
In its report, the Medical Board confirmed that the operation was conducted on the left kidney instead of right due to the doctor's negligence. Now a case has been registered against the doctor and the hospital.
Confirming this, Inspector Surender Singh, SHO, City Police Station, Rewari said that the Gokul police were further investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the patient's family has accused the hospital staff of neglecting to give proper medication after the surgery.
