Telangana Health Minister inaugurates new medical college Hospital built at cost of Rs 183 crore
Narsampet: Health Minister C. Damodar Rajanarasimha has announced ambitious plans to transform the Warangal district into a major health hub in Telangana. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Government Medical College and General Hospital complex in Narsampet, Rajanarasimha highlighted key initiatives aimed at enhancing the region’s healthcare infrastructure.
The introduction of trauma care centres is a key component of the government's strategy to enhance emergency healthcare infrastructure. By ensuring that accident victims receive immediate attention, these centres are poised to play a vital role in reducing mortality rates and improving overall health outcomes. This initiative reflects a commitment to providing swift and effective medical responses during emergencies, particularly during the critical "golden hour," when timely treatment can significantly increase chances of survival.
In addition, plans are in place for a new building at Osmania General Hospital, set to be constructed on a sprawling 31 acres in Hyderabad. With an estimated expenditure of ₹2,000 crore, this expansion aims to enhance the capacity and quality of services at one of the state's oldest and most prestigious hospitals.
On Thursday, during the inauguration ceremony of a new government medical college and general hospital in Narsampet, the health minister addressed these developments. Constructed at a cost of ₹183 crore, this facility aims to enhance medical education and provide comprehensive healthcare services to the local population. The minister emphasized the importance of these initiatives in improving access to quality healthcare and training for future medical professionals.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved the establishment of the medical college in Narsampet, which will offer 50 MBBS seats for the 2024-25 academic year. With the addition of eight new medical colleges this academic year, the total number of government medical colleges in the state has now increased to 34. This expansion is aimed at enhancing medical education and addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the region.

Minister Raja Narasimha was joined by several dignitaries, including Minister for Revenue and Information & Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Minister for Forests and Environment Konda Surekha, Mahabubabad MP P. Balram Naik, and Narsampet MLA D. Madhava Reddy, who all underscored the government's commitment to improving healthcare services.
According to The Hindu, the minister outlined the initiatives of the Congress government aimed at strengthening health infrastructure and improving the public healthcare delivery system. He noted that around 4,000 vacant posts, including those for professors, assistant professors, and associate professors, have already been filled. Additionally, approximately 7,000 nursing personnel have been recruited, and a new notification has been issued to provide postings for 2,500 more nursing staff.
To further enhance the healthcare facility the minister also inaugurated an Indira Mahila Canteen on the premises of the new medical college, aimed at providing affordable meals to staff and students.
