Telangana: Rain water floods 2 MCH centres, patients shifted
Hyderabad: The two newly inaugurated Maternal and Child Health (MCH) centres in the state have been nearly covered in the flood which prompted the authorities to shift the patients to Government hospitals.
Patients were immediately shifted from MCH in Mancherial to District General Hospital as the nearest Godavari river is 300 m away. Around 100 patients including pregnant women, new mothers, newborns, and even young children were shifted on Tuesday at midnight. Pedapalli's Manthani centre moved three patients to a community health centre.
Despite constructing the MCH centre at a higher level, water covered the steps on Wednesday morning. As the rain started to pour heavily, the hospital authorities noticed that the road was getting covered by water and they immediately shifted the patients. The hospital authorities are concerned about future natural disasters hitting the hospital.

The 10-bedded MCH was established on a six-acre of land in College Road of Mancherial district headquarters, with an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore.
The Manthani centre was also flooded with rainwater and three patients were shifted to the community health centre.
Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad district officer Mandala Vasudeva Reddy said "The construction of a compound wall would address the issue. Along with patients, some of the equipment too was shifted."

A health official at MCH told TH, "A health facility is built to last for several decades. Similar floods could be witnessed whenever excess rains are received. A solution is needed. There were intense discussions about the location of the MCH centre before it was constructed here."
More than 10 people died in various rain-related incidents since the current spell of incessant rains began in Telangana five days ago, a senior official said on Wednesday.
