UP hospital sealed, doctor held after pregnant woman's death

Muzaffarnagar: In an alleged case of medical negligence, the city police on Thursday arrested a hospital owner and a doctor after a woman passed away following her delivery at an illegal private hospital here.
Six people, including the owner of the Sargam Hospital, have been booked for negligence of duty and attacking the family members of the deceased, they said.
The pregnant Dalit woman was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, police said, adding she and her fetus died before delivery allegedly due to negligence.
Police have lodged an FIR under the relevant section of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the complaint filed by the woman’s husband.

A police team arrested the hospital owner and a doctor after registering the FIR at the Tahana Bhawan police station, Circle Officer (CO) Amar Deep Maurya told the media here.
“It was also revealed that the hospital was operating without registration following which it was sealed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO),” he added.
Police investigation into the case is underway.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that two private clinics were sealed by the Uttar Pradesh Health Department in Shamli following the death of a newborn baby due to the alleged negligence by an untrained doctor in one of the clinics. Following the death of the baby, a surprise inspection by the Assistant chief medical officer revealed that the doctor does not have a medical degree. Mohd Aiyyab, a resident of Bibipur Hatia village went to the Aayat Child Clinic in Kairana to seek treatment for his newborn.
The doctor was reportedly untrained and was unable to deal with the infant's breathing issues, following which the baby was referred to Panipat for specialized medical care.
