UP: Male Nurse arrested for alleged sexual assault of ICU Patient

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a male nursing staffer has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman patient after sedating her at a private hospital in Pachpedwa, Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh.

The accused, a resident of Madhyanagar, Bhaisahw, under the Pachpedwa police station limits, was apprehended near Bhathar bridge after a tip-off led police to his location. He worked as nursing staff at the private facility where the incident occurred.

According to authorities, the incident took place in the early hours of July 25. The survivor, a local resident, had been admitted to the hospital’s ICU a day earlier after experiencing chest pain. The accused and the female trainee nurse were assigned to the night shift. Around 2 am, the accused allegedly asked all patients’ attendants to step out of the ICU. The trainee nurse later moved to the general ward to rest, leaving the accused alone in the ICU.

Around 4 a.m., the accused allegedly injected the woman with a sedative, rendering her unconscious, before sexually assaulting her.

CCTV cameras installed outside the bed’s privacy curtain reportedly captured the sequence of events.

The survivor regained consciousness during the alleged assault and immediately raised an alarm. The accused fled the scene but was soon tracked down by the authorities within 48 hours.

According to TOI, a case was registered under Sections 64(2)e and 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway under SP Vikas Kumar's supervision.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused had no prior criminal record. The police are continuing to collect further evidence.

“We arrested the accused after gathering sufficient evidence against him,” said Balrampur Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikash Kumar, reports TNIE.
