West Bengal: Apollo Hospitals plans to expand
Kolkata: The private hospital chain Apollo Hospitals in West Bengal plans to expand its branch to the city and build a hospital and a medical college in Batanagar, as per information revealed by a senior official of the hospital chain on Friday.
The current building of the hospital located in Kolkata near Kadapara on EM Bypass runs 80% occupied at night and is fully occupied in the morning, said K. Hari Prasad, director of the hospitals division of the Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Limited.

While inaugurating an advanced 5G ambulance which will have 5G internet connectivity, Prasad said, "The numbers show that there is reason for expansion and we have plans to expand." He further added, "We are a listed company and we cannot go into the specifics right now. But you will soon get to know about our plans."
The chain is currently planning to set up a hospital and a medical college in Batanagar.
Speaking to the Telegraph India, an official associated with the hospital said they the authorities would begin the functioning of the hospital, following which they would start the medical college. The official said, "We are also on the lookout for more space in Kolkata."
Meanwhile, the newly inaugurated 5G ambulance would help in immediately providing treatment as soon as the patients are taken inside the ambulance vehicle. Commenting on this, an official said that cardiac and neurological emergencies would be taken care of immediately. The official said, "There will be a consultant in the ambulance. The doctor will connect with the specialist doctor concerned in the hospital and start treatment immediately."
During a stroke or cardiac arrest, patients often spend their crucial time outside the hospital, said Prasad. Speaking about the importance of the ambulance, he said, "Our aim is to not waste any time. Often a patient spends significant time of the golden hour outside the hospital and this has an impact on the outcome of the treatment." The 5G ambulances would be sent only during cases like trauma, neuro or cardiac issues, said another official.
