Woman dies after post-delivery complications at Dholpur Hospital, family stages protest

Dholpur: In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman died while being taken to Jaipur after her condition deteriorated following childbirth at Dholpur District Hospital, sparking protests by her family and prompting authorities to order a joint administrative inquiry into the incident.

According to reports, the woman, a resident of Gadarpura village in Bari, was admitted to the district hospital with labour pains at around 11 a.m. on Monday. Officials said she was a high-risk pregnancy case. However, her family reportedly took her home later that night without informing the hospital staff.

Her condition worsened on Tuesday morning, prompting her family to bring her back to the hospital. She gave birth to a baby girl, but soon complained of severe chest pain, after which her condition rapidly deteriorated. Doctors referred her to a higher medical centre in Jaipur, but she died on the way.

Following the incident, the woman’s family staged a protest by placing her body outside the District Collectorate and raising slogans against the Medical Department. The relatives alleged that doctors failed to provide timely and adequate treatment despite her worsening condition and demanded strict action against those responsible.

District Collector Srinidhi BT said the woman was a high-risk pregnancy case and assured that the investigation would thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to her death. Speaking to ETV Bharat, the collector said, "A joint team of the Medical Department and the administration is being formed to look into this matter. If we find any negligence during the investigation, we will take appropriate action against those involved,” said Srinidhi.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Samarveer Singh Sikarwar said the woman had been admitted with labour pains and severe swelling, for which treatment had been initiated. He maintained that the family left the hospital on Monday night without informing the medical staff.

"She was brought back to the hospital on Tuesday after her condition deteriorated significantly. By then, delivery had already started, and she was showing signs of anxiety, restlessness, and chest pain. Given her critical condition, we immediately referred her to Jaipur," said Dr Sikarwar, reports ETV Bharat.

Following the protest, senior administrative and police officials reached the District Collectorate, held discussions with the grieving family and assured them that the matter would be investigated. The body was later shifted to the mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The incident comes amid growing concern over a series of maternal deaths in Rajasthan.
