Prasant Kumar Patra, inspector-in-charge of Digapahandi police station, stated that the incident came to light after the victim’s husband filed a formal complaint alleging negligence and deception by the nursing home staff. Following the complaint, an investigation was launched, resulting in the arrests of two ANMs — One on May 19 and another on August 10. The doctor was eventually arrested in his village.
Speaking to TOI, Investigators said the nursing home had assured the woman’s family that it was fully equipped for a safe delivery. On this basis, the victim, Roji Nayak, was admitted on 11 May. "After four hours of labour, the delivery was conducted by the accused without any qualified doctor present."
The newborn was declared dead shortly after birth. The Woman's condition rapidly deteriorated, and she was being rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital when she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
