Woman's death during treatment sparks protest at Ramanathapuram Medical College Hospital

Ramanathapuram: A protest erupted outside the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital after a woman died during treatment for a sinus infection, with her relatives demanding action against the doctors involved, officials said on Thursday.
According to a recent ANI report, the deceased, identified as Tamilselvi (35), wife of a daily wage worker Muniyasamy from Palkarai village in Ramanathapuram district, had been suffering from breathing difficulties due to a sinus infection.
She was admitted to the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital on May 18 for treatment. Doctors who examined her reportedly advised surgery, which was performed at the hospital on May 24.

However, her relatives alleged that there was no improvement in her physical condition after the surgery. They further claimed that she remained motionless and suspected that she had died.
When the hospital said that she should be sent to Madurai for further treatment, the relatives did not agree to it.
In this situation, she was being treated at the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital, and doctors declared her dead on Wednesday morning.
Her relatives, who refused to accept the body, sat on the Madurai-Dhanushkodi National Highway in front of the Ramanathapuram Government Medical College Hospital and engaged in a road blockade protest. Following this, the police held talks with the relatives.
The road blockade was temporarily called off after they said they would investigate the matter.
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that a protest erupted at Mimhans Neuro Hospital in the Medical Police Station area, Meerut, after the family of a female patient alleged medical negligence in her treatment. Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control after persuading the agitating relatives. The patient, a resident of Begumbagh under the Nauchandi police station area, was admitted to the hospital on June 9 in a critical state after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
