IIOPM Conference highlights need for stronger human capital management in healthcare
The IIOPM conference in New Delhi brought together healthcare experts to discuss human capital management, employee wellness, occupational stress, psychological safety and preparing medical professionals for an AI-driven healthcare environment.
New Delhi: A convocation ceremony was held in New Delhi on August 26, 2026, as part of a conference on “Human Capital Management in Healthcare: Creating and Sustaining High Performing and Psychologically Healthy Organizations,” organised by the International Institute of Organisational Psychological Medicine (IIOPM).
The conference brought together healthcare professionals and experts to discuss the changing requirements of the healthcare workforce and the need to build psychologically healthy, competent and future-ready institutions.
The convocation was addressed by Dr Abhijat Sheth, Chairman, National Medical Commission (NMC) and President, National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), who emphasised that healthcare institutions must move beyond conventional human-resource management and focus on building human capital.
Dr Sheth said, "Merely having an HR department, recruitment systems and administrative policies is not enough. The larger responsibility is to develop professionals with knowledge, competence, confidence, ethical values and leadership capabilities." He stressed that individual qualifications can deliver their full potential only when professionals work in a supportive institutional environment.
Dr Sheth stressed that respect, psychological safety, continuous learning and institutional support are key to improving organisational performance. He highlighted the need for healthcare professionals to adapt to AI and digital healthcare while retaining human judgement and strengthening communication, teamwork and leadership skills.
The conference addressed healthcare workforce and organisational well-being, covering employee wellness, human capital management, occupational stress and improving healthcare delivery. Sessions were led by Dr Russell D’Souza, Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, Dr Mary Matthew, Dr Deepak Singla, Dr Sushil Gupta and Dr Pierre Thibaut, while Dr Atul Dhir (USA) delivered the keynote on preparing physicians for the future.
The conference was also attended by Smt. Meena Subhash Gupta, Dr Rajiv Tandon and other guests, participants and healthcare professionals.
