The directorate of medical and rural health services received a tipoff that an illegal health centre was being run behind the government hospital, after which the officials inspected and closed down the clinic.
During the inspection, the officials found two pregnant women waiting for information on the sex of the foetus after completing their tests. The officials found the damaged medical equipment used for testing. The proprietor, A Vadivelu, had run away after damaging the equipment once he got to know about the raid, reports the Times of India.
The investigation found that Vadivelu was running the centre without any required qualifications. He was running the centre from a small house he had rented behind the government medical college. The houseowner Sarasu was his assistant. Both the accused are currently on the run and the police are looking for them.
Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that in a raid to eradicate illegal health activities in Telangana, the Warangal police busted an illegal sex determination and abortion racket, following which 18 people, including five gynaecologists and two Ayurveda doctors, have been arrested in connection with the case. The five arrested doctors include three government doctors and two private doctors. They have been booked under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PCPNDT) of 1994 and other relevant Acts.
