COVID-19 impact: MCI extends application timeline for medical colleges starting MBBS course, seeking renewal
New Delhi: The medical education sector across the country is facing severe hardships in carrying out its day to day operations amid the coronavirus outbreak. Keeping in view of all these difficulties, the Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI BoG) has extended the date of submission of Application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges, Increase of MBBS Seats, Renewal of Permission, and Renewal of Permission against the increased intake for MBBS Seats in the existing Medical Colleges.
The confirmation to this effect was made via a recent notice uploaded on the official website of the apex medical council regarding the Extension of date of submission of Application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges / Increase of UG Seats / Renewal of Permission /Renewal of Permission against the increased intake for UG Seats in the existing Medical Colleges in view of COVID 19 Pandemic for the academic session 2021-22.
This is for information of applicant Medical Colleges and Institutions:
It has been decided that the time period for submission of application for Establishment of New Medical Colleges / Increase of UG Seats / Renewal of Permission / Renewal of Permission against the increased intake in the existing Medical Colleges for the academic session 2021-2022 shall be 16th October 2020 to 15th November 2020 instead of 15th September 2020 to 15th October 2020.
Earlier, the MCI had informed that the last date of submission of application for the concerned effects shall be 15th September 2020 to 15th October 2020 instead of 15th June, to 7th July 2020. However, in view of the COVID-19 Pandemic, BoG had then moved an application for extension of the time limit for the issue of LOP for UG seats to 15.10.2020.
Medical Dialogues had reported regarding the application filed in the Hon'ble Supreme Court praying for extension of the last date of grant of Letter of Permission (LOP) u/s 10A for New Medical College/Renewal of Permission for MBBS course.

The said information has accordingly been forwarded to Additional Chief Secretary (Health / Medical Education) / Principal Secretary (Medical Education)/Secretary (Medical Education) of all State/UT Governments, Director of Medical Education of all State/UT Governments, Under Secretary at Health Ministry, Vice-Chancellor of all Health Universities and Dean/Principal of all Medical Colleges.
