RTI reveals NBE Collected Rs 75 Crore as NEET PG 2024 Exam Fees, doctors question lack of centres

New Delhi: The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS/NBE) has collected Rs 75 crore as exam fees for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024, revealed response to a Right to Information (RTI) application.
Dr. Aman Kaushik, an RTI activist filed the application to the NBEMS and sought the details of the total examination fee amount collected from all the candidates who applied for the PG medical entrance exam test i.e. NEET PG 2024 this year.
Further, Dr. Kaushik also sought to know from the NBE the details about the total amount spent to conduct the NEET PG 2024 exam.
In response to the RTI application, NBE on 28.01.2025 informed that altogether Rs 75 crore was collected as NEET PG 2024 exam fees. However, it did not provide the details of the amount spent in conducting the exam, highlighting that the expenses are booked at the time of the invoice being received for payment in the account department rather than when the services are provided.

"The total fee collected from NEE PG 2024 is Rs 75,00,00,000/- approx. further it is stated that we are following the cash based Accounting system in which expenses are booked at the time of the invoice are received for payment in the A/c department rather than when the services are provided," NBE mentioned.
"Hence details of the total amount spent cannot be provided at this stage," it added.
Commenting on the matter, Dr. Kaushik told Medical Dialogues, "Despite collecting high fees, NBEMS failed to provide centers in the same cities. NEET PG is also given by aspirants who are doing jobs. If centers are provided in different cities, they have to bear traveling expenses. Also, candidates have to take leave for 2-3 days and will have to sacrifice on their salary. So indirectly, the exam is costing 10-15k."
Dr. Kaushik has urged NBEMS to provide the centres of the NEET PG exam in the same cities, and reduce the fees for applying for the exam. Further, he also requested the Board to conduct the PG medical entrance exam in a single shift.
